Radius corners

Rounded leaf corners are sometimes preferred on a hinge for either an aesthetic look, or possibly for keeping the corners of the hinge smooth so they do not catch on or scratch anything or anyone. The name for rounding the corners is usually stated as the hinge having radius corners.

Most often, all four of the corners are done, but one, two, or even just three of the four corners can have a radius depending on the application.

Circle radius

The radius of the corner is just that; a dimension for the radius of a phantom circle that is drawn for the corner of the hinge. Two of the most commonly used radius lengths are .125" and .250". This circle radius sets the size or roundness of the corner, a shorter radius length will create a smaller circle arc and vice-versa.
