Pin Retention : Splined Pin

Manufacturing a hinge with a splined pin can retain the pin rather securely, but it is considered to still be of medium security as with some effort, the pin can be driven out of the knuckles and be removed.

The pin has raised ridges, or splines that catch in one of the end knuckles when the pin is driven into the hinge. You cannot have splines with lengths longer than the length of one knuckle because if you trap two opposing leaf knuckles, the hinge will bind and not move.
