Pin Retention : Spun Ends

Spun or peened ends can be supplied on a hinge and they are a very secure way of retaining the pin. The pin is cut slightly longer than the hinge length and just like the name implies, machinery spins down each end so its rounded and larger than the curl diameter of the hinge.

The only way of removing the pin from a hinge with a pin that has both ends spun would be to grind off one of the pin ends. A hinge can also be supplied with a pin spun on one end only, so the pin is removable. You may also encounter fancy spun ends that are cold formed; these are different from our standard commercial spun ends.
